GUTTER CLEANING THROUGH PRESSURE WASHING
Almost every residential and commercial building in Land O'Lakes has a set of gutters and downspout to whisk away rainwater from your roof and building foundation. The key purpose of gutters is to ensure that the structure of your home or business remains dry, and therefore in sound condition, yet cleaning gutters is one of those maintenance tasks that is often neglected or put off because it's "up there" and out of sight plus a filthy and time-consuming job.
Clean and well-maintained gutters are critical in extending the life of your roof as well as ensuring the integrity of your building's foundation. If you don't clean them regularly, they can become a hazard, filling up with dead leaves, twigs and other organic debris that can turn into a complete mess, clogging your downspout and leading to overflow.
Why You Need Gutter Cleaning in Land O'Lakes
When you don't maintain your gutters and downspouts in a timely manner, those gutters, and even other parts of your building, will give you signs that it's time to take care of things. If you let things go long enough, the gutters will become so clogged that the system itself begins to fail by showing cracks, holes, splitting at seams and maybe even an eventual collapse under the sheer weight of accumulated dirt. Gutters and downspouts that have begun to pull away from the building or plants growing in your roof gutter are a sure sign that something is wrong. At this point you have a gutter maintenance problem that should be addressed immediately.
There are other problems that creep up slowly and silently but are more devastating to your property. Gutters that don't work properly will damage your building's foundation as excess water from rain won't be directed away from your building. If you have a basement, it will become prone to leaks and flooding. The exterior walls of your building will become discolored and the area of the roof near the gutters will break down more quickly, leading to expensive repairs or replacement.
Gutter Cleaning Via Pressure Washing is Most Effective
In order to effectively clear your gutters, you need to remove all leaves and debris from them. Although you can do this by hand, the fastest and most effective way is through pressure washing. Note that because gutters are constantly exposed to the elements, just about anything can land in there, including plastic shopping bags and other non-organic material, which can clog downspouts as well.
Pressure washing to clean gutters is also great for the following reasons:
Pressure Washing Gutters on Your Own
Power washing gutters is a job that many homeowners and business owners are able to do on their own. In fact, as a business owner, you may already own a power washing machine to clean large areas of your operation.
To do the job, you'll need a medium-duty pressure washer with a force of about 2700 psi. You can accomplish the job with a light-duty unit as well but be aware that you may have to make more passes with the power washing wand and do more prep work.
Cleaning gutters on your own takes more thought and preparation than cleaning siding or exterior walls. Inspect the gutter for starters to make sure, it is still in sound condition and will not collapse on you while working on it with your pressure washer. To do the job properly, you will need a telescoping wand at the very least as pressure washing hoses most likely won't reach. Make sure you have a complete set of nozzles for applying detergent and for cleaning. Prepare the area around and underneath the gutters by spraying a stream of water to protect nearby vegetation from debris that will ultimately fall out.
Apply detergent with a 65-degree wand and let the solution sit for a few minutes to help break up caked-on matter. Change to the more forceful 25-degree nozzle for cleaning. Stubborn spots may require a pass with a 15-degree nozzle but take care never to hold the nozzle over any area for an extended amount of time as you will damage your gutters or downspouts. Pay particular attention to connection joints as debris tends to collect in these areas. Start cleaning at downspouts and work away from each one.
Once you have cleaned the gutters, flush them with hot water. If the gutters are clear but water still seems to back up, you have a problem with clogged downspouts, which requires extra attention. You'll need to clean out the debris inside by wearing cut-proof wire coated gloves and possibly a special tool to scoop out clogs. After removing clogs try flushing out the downspout again with hot water.
Now that your gutters are clear, you can just sit back and relax, right? Not so fast. Remember all the gunk that was in your gutters? It's on the ground now and you'll have to spray it into a common area and then dispose of it. Only when you do that are you truly done with gutter cleaning.
What is the Cost of Gutter Cleaning Near Me in Land O'Lakes?
Generally, prices for gutter cleaning involve several important factors that include the total lineal footage of the gutters, the height of your building and its total square footage.
